Week 1 Guerrilla Marketing

In Guerrilla Marketing, it focuses more on what small businesses can do to promote their product or service that is minimal cost and can have a real impact on overall profits. Guerrilla marketing focuses on the psychology of human behavior and decision making. As a general rule, it is important to focus on the customer and what you can help them achieve with your help, rather than talking about the company or business directly. It will capture the customer's attention when you focus on them and their needs. In addition, it is important to remember that marketing is full circle. It begins with your idea to bring in revenue, but it turns into a circle with repeat customers and referrals through those customers.

Some of the ideas I appreciated were the simple, yet effective methods of nontraditional marketing. Following up with customers, handing out flyers (or stapling them on bulletin boards, putting ads in the local paper, and participating in fusion marketing are some examples. Also, it can be more beneficial to focus on those you really want to be customers rather than a broad audience and wasting time and money on people who are not interested anyways -- the act of narrowing down potential customers is micro and nano casting. Allowing people to 'opt in' is one way to strategically promote and market your product or service to others who are actually interested.

It was interesting to realize that marketing does not have to be solely for large corporations. Even small businesses need to market and advertise strategically, but also do not need to spend a lot of money to do so. It is an area I have not had experience in, but the book mentions that it is both an art and a science and I do have some experience with balancing the two. Nursing is also considered an art and a science. Medically, there is mostly science involved, yet the art of taking care of patients is a whole other element. Every patient is unique, even if the diagnosis is similar to others. I will try to keep that in mind as I continue my journey into marketing that it can be done and there are a few commonalities.
