Week 5 Surfing the Tsunami

Adopting artificial intelligence (AI) is important to adjust to changes and still maintain relevance, marketability, innovation, and be successful. In Surfing the Tsunami, it mentions that Amazon is highly successful with the e-reader products. I had one of the first e-readers back in the day. It was exciting and I ran out of room on bookshelves multiple times. However, the debate of whether I purchase a new book title via electronically or a paper version depends on the price. At the same time, local bookstores are still unique and a great experience to go pick out some new reading material. Growing up, the bookstore my favorite place to go shop -- study with friends, pick out new books, and learn new things. The tables with the recommendations never failed to hold my attention. Amazon does not have the same personal experience trying to decide what to read next.

Regarding other homemade or personalized items, Etsy is a website platform that allows small businesses to promote their products and sell to customers. There is a search engine on the website, and using keywords like Google Ads, presents results to customers. Most of the products are homemade or custom made to order and supports small businesses. Recently on my trips to Outer Banks in North Carolina and again in Portland, Oregon, I was browsing in the local stores and markets. Almost all of the small businesses owners and artists had some platform to advertise their products and works online -- Instagram, Facebook, Etsy, their own website, etc. AI can be used for local businesses: reach more potential customers, and more easily retain customers regardless of location.

Routine work is the basis of automation. There are many types of jobs that require routine work. I often hear people say they are bored at work. There are ways to speed work and productivity up with eliminating or minimizing the mundane and repetitive work. Being proficient in Microsoft Office features, various apps, and software that is budget friendly and meets the needs of your small business. Twenty percent of CEOs work on automating tasks. When working the floor, the most frequently used automated task is uploading vital signs and blood sugars into the patient chart automatically. Some data is automatically audited, but there are still audits that must be analyzed by managers manually. Overall, adopting includes integrating AI advancements into your life that is functional and beneficial.
